Sad as we all were to see the Paralympic games in Tokyo postponed for another year, we are excited that Wellspect is the newest Global Partner to the International Wheelchair Basketball Federation, IWBF. This will give us all the more reason to engage in the games in Tokyo next summer.
The agreement comes as a natural continuation of our support in Sweden of local organisations such as Spinalis, GBG Lions Wheelchair Rugby and GRBK (Gothenburg wheelchair basket), and supersedes an existing 14-year partnership that Wellspect has in Germany with the Deutscher Rollstuhl-Sportverband (DRS). We are now looking to develop this commitment from a country level to a global scale. We are now looking to develop this successful cooperation, showcasing not only the sport of wheelchair basketball, but our joint vision for transforming lives. As a leading global provider of innovative medical devices focusing on helping people with urinary retention or chronic constipation, we know that our products are crucial to the athletes who need them – for them to lead an active life.
A shared vision of making a difference to society
IWBF President, Ulf Mehrens, said: "We are extremely pleased to welcome Wellspect as an IWBF Global Partner. It's a privilege to partner with such a renowned company who share the same vision and passion as us to make a difference to society, and we believe they will be a great partner in our mission of developing and growing wheelchair basketball worldwide. We are confident the partnership will be successful for both organisations and we look forward to a fruitful cooperation."
A passion for reducing inequalities
Svenn Poulsen, Group Vice President, Healthcare, adds: “We have a deep understanding and respect of the challenges facing anyone who needs our products. We passionately believe in reducing inequalities and offering opportunity to all our users. Knowing the commitment and passion necessary to overcome obstacles and meet new challenges, we feel confident that our partnership with the IWBF will help demonstrate our joint vision of making a real difference.”
An organization that wants to provide opportunities for all
The International Wheelchair Basketball Federation (IWBF) is the international governing body responsible for wheelchair basketball. It is a non-profit organisation whose purpose is to provide opportunities for persons with a disability to play the game of wheelchair basketball.
